This Friday, the greatest instability will initially be concentrated along the Mediterranean coast. Aemet forecasts heavy showers on the coasts of Catalonia and the southeastern third of the country, especially in Mallorca and the Pityusic Islands, where rainfall could locally be very heavy, produce significant accumulations and be accompanied by thunderstorms during the first half of the day.
SATURDAY WITH THUNDERSTORM RISKS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
On Saturday, high pressure will gain ground, bringing mostly cloudy or clear skies across much of Spain. The main exception will once again be the southeast and the Pityusic Islands. Around Cape La Nao, in Alicante, showers accompanied by thunderstorms could be heavy and produce significant accumulations. Heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out in other parts of the southeastern coast either. Saturday will therefore offer a very different picture depending on the area of Spain: mostly sunny conditions and rising temperatures across wide parts of the interior, compared with continued unsettled weather and a risk of intense thunderstorms in parts of the Mediterranean.
The other main feature will be the rise in temperatures. Highs will increase across most of the country, with a particularly notable rise in parts of Galicia, the Cantabrian region and the upper Ebro valley. Temperatures could exceed 35 ºC in the southwestern lowlands. Among the provincial capitals, Aemet forecasts highs of 35 ºC in Badajoz, 34 ºC in Cordoba and Seville, 31 ºC in Granada and Toledo, and 29 ºC in Madrid, Malaga and Zaragoza.
In addition, easterly winds will blow strongly in the Alboran Sea and the Strait of Gibraltar, where very strong gusts are likely. In the Canary Islands, cloudy skies and some light rain will continue in the north of the mountainous islands.
