Initially, stable conditions will prevail across the country, with mostly clear or lightly cloudy skies in most areas. As the day progresses, the DANA will bring medium- and high-level clouds, resulting in cloudy skies across the western third and partly cloudy conditions elsewhere. The coasts of Galicia, Asturias, Alboran and the Strait will also see low cloud, with a chance of coastal mist and fog.
The Canary Islands will have cloudy skies or intervals of medium- and high-level cloud, with a low chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms in mountainous areas. Light haze will also affect Alboran and the west of the mainland, with higher concentrations in the Canary Islands.
HEAT BRINGS HIGHS OF UP TO 41 DEGREES
Maximum temperatures will fall in northern Galicia and the southwestern third of the mainland, where the decreases may be locally significant. They will rise, however, in the eastern and northeastern thirds of the mainland, the Northern Plateau and the archipelagos, with locally significant increases also possible in the eastern Cantabrian region.
Temperatures will remain high for this time of year across most of the country, exceeding 35 degrees across much of the mainland interior, with locally higher readings also possible on the islands. Temperatures are likely to surpass 40 degrees in the depressions of the northeast and the southern Atlantic basin. Among provincial capitals, Zaragoza, Lleida and Logroño will reach 41 degrees, while Badajoz, Córdoba, Jaén, Seville and Toledo will reach 40. Also notable are the 39 degrees forecast for Albacete, Cáceres, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Granada, Guadalajara, Huesca, Pamplona/Iruña and Zamora, and the 38 degrees expected in Madrid, Girona, Murcia, Ourense, Salamanca, Teruel and Valladolid.
TROPICAL NIGHTS ACROSS WIDE AREAS
Minimum temperatures will rise in the Canary Islands and the northwestern half of the mainland, with little change elsewhere. Tropical nights are expected across large areas of the southern half of the mainland, the Mediterranean and the northeastern depressions. In the Canary Islands and the depressions of the southwestern mainland, temperatures may locally remain above 25 degrees overnight.
Trade winds will blow in the Canary Islands, with likely strong intervals, while moderate easterly winds will affect the Strait and moderate northeasterly winds will blow along the Galician coast. Elsewhere, light westerly and northerly winds will prevail, except in the Mediterranean, where easterly and southerly winds will dominate.
