Spanish and US military personnel will pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 at the event, marking the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people.
As the Royal Household recalls, Rota Naval Base traditionally commemorates the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with solemn tribute ceremonies jointly organised by Spanish Navy personnel and members of the United States Armed Forces stationed at the facility.
After attending the tribute, the head of state will inaugurate the new Rota Base Forum Municipal Cultural Centre and Museum, where a 2,300-square-metre museum space recounts Rota's evolution as a defensive enclave from the 18th century to the present day, as well as the impact and transformation experienced by the town in Cadiz province following the establishment of the Naval Base and more than 60 years of the US presence in Rota.
