A controversial retaken penalty spoils Rudé’s El Alcoraz debut against Antequera

S.D. Huesca coach Rudé was unable to mark his El Alcoraz debut with a win after drawing 1-1 with Antequera in a match overshadowed by controversy in the final minutes. The hosts took the lead through Douglas and dominated much of the game, but the referee ordered a penalty saved by Gazzaniga to be retaken, and the second attempt found the net.

The Huesca side made their intentions clear from the outset and created several chances to extend their lead. However, Antequera held firm and took advantage of the closing stages to level the score in a tense finish.

S.D. Huesca started brightly and Salva Ruiz struck the post while supporters were still taking their seats at El Alcoraz. The hosts maintained the initiative and added further attacking threats through efforts from Gorostidi and Pascu before the midway point of the first half. Antequera, for their part, looked for opportunities on the counterattack but failed to hit the target.

Just when it appeared the match would reach halftime goalless, Douglas took advantage of a set piece to put the hosts ahead. In the 40th minute, Jimmy delivered a free kick to the far post and the Brazilian forward threw himself at the ball to send it into the net and make it 1-0.

ANTEQUERA EQUALIZE FROM THE PENALTY SPOT

The second half began with a clear chance for Diego Gómez that failed to find the target. Shortly afterward, Quique Fornos came close to extending the lead during his first minutes of competitive action after recovering from injury, but his effort went narrowly wide following a free kick delivered into the area by Salva Ruiz.

Antequera gradually gained ground and put Rudé’s side under pressure during one of the most difficult spells for Huesca. The coach responded with a triple substitution, introducing fresh options after Iván Rodríguez, Cristian Herrera and Diego Collado were taken off. S.D. Huesca managed to weather that period of defensive pressure and began threatening the Andalusian side’s goal again.

The controversy came as the match entered its final stages. The referee awarded Antequera a penalty and Gazzaniga saved the spot kick, prompting celebrations around El Alcoraz. Although play initially continued, the visiting team requested a review of the incident and the referee ordered the penalty to be retaken. Antequera made no mistake with the second attempt and leveled the score at 1-1.

The match continued into a tense period of stoppage time, during which a penalty could even have been awarded for a handball by Antequera. In the end, the score remained unchanged and S.D. Huesca had to settle for a draw in Rudé’s El Alcoraz debut.
