CD Teruel snatch a point against Águilas with Goyo Medina's stoppage-time goal

CD Teruel salvaged a point against Águilas FC in a 1-1 draw at Estadio Pinilla thanks to Goyo Medina's stoppage-time header. Kiko Ramírez's side had to come from behind after Mario Abenza's goal in the ninth round of Primera Federación and were rewarded for their persistence as the match drew to a close.

The Rojillos controlled proceedings for much of the match, particularly after conceding the visitors' goal in the 17th minute. Despite struggling to break through Águilas' defensive structure and the chances the visitors had to seal the win, Teruel's late push allowed the home side to earn a point that keeps alive their hopes of moving closer to safety.

SAME STARTING XI AS AGAINST ALCORCÓN

Kiko Ramírez named the same starting XI that secured victory over AD Alcorcón, with Zarco in goal; Borge, Nathanael, Álvaro López and Joserra in defense; Relu and Albisua in the double pivot; and Mario Sesé, Hugo Redón and Edu Gallardo behind Sergio Moreno. The meeting between two direct rivals began at a high tempo, with two FVS reviews in the opening minutes following an incident in the Rojillos' area, which the referee resolved without awarding a foul.

Águilas struck first. In the 17th minute, Mario Abenza headed home from a corner, placing the ball inside the far post and beyond Zarco's reach. CD Teruel responded, with Mario Sesé providing one of their main attacking outlets down the flank. One of his runs led to a corner that ended with Albisua putting the ball in the net, although the goal was ruled out for positional offside.

The play also brought bad news for the home side, as captain Relu was injured and had to leave the pitch in the 33rd minute. Miguel Romera replaced him. From that point on, Teruel took control of possession and pinned the visitors back in their area, creating a series of chances against a team sitting deep. The eight minutes of added time were not enough to level the score before the break.

GOYO MEDINA DECIDES IT IN STOPPAGE TIME

After the restart, the match continued to be shaped by FVS reviews, with two more interventions, one for each team. Among them, CD Teruel appealed for a possible penalty on Edu Gallardo, but no spot kick was awarded.

Ramírez made changes and brought on Sander Ballero, who had just recovered from his injury, for Albisua. While the Rojillos searched for an equalizer, Águilas tried to exploit the spaces on the counterattack and came close to extending their lead. Javi Castedo found himself one-on-one with Zarco, but the home goalkeeper made an excellent save to keep his team in the match.

With Teruel throwing players forward and time running out, the substitutions proved decisive. Goyo Medina and Santi Borikó came on in the 79th minute and were involved in the move that allowed the home side to rescue a draw.

In stoppage time, Borikó combined with Andrés Borge on the right wing, and the full-back delivered a precise cross that Goyo headed into the net to make it 1-1 and spark celebrations at Pinilla. The goal earned Teruel a point in a fiercely contested match against a direct rival.
