The event will take place on Tuesday, November 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the Josefa Amar y Borbón Room at the Paraninfo of the University of Zaragoza. Admission will be free, with entry available on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached, and will include a conversation with both authors moderated by Graciela de Torres Olson. Afterwards, DeConnick and López will sign copies for attendees.
A STORY OF FAMILY, MUSIC AND THE SEARCH FOR IDENTITY
FML is presented as a chaotic, funny and deeply human story that focuses on people capable of driving one another crazy and, despite everything, remaining united. The work explores family relationships, motherhood, adolescence and the search for one’s own identity. Art, music and friendship also play a central role. DeConnick and López experiment with fanzine aesthetics, graphic design and visual storytelling, changing techniques and narrative forms throughout the pages.
The work has also received international recognition after being nominated for the 2026 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series, one of the comic book industry’s leading honors.
ZARAGOZA APPEARS AMONG THE PANELS
The tour stop also has a special connection to the city. David López has incorporated various recognizable elements of Zaragoza into FML. Among them is the former School of Art, which is transformed in the story into the high school attended by the protagonist’s son.
López began his career in the fanzine scene during the 1990s before moving into the U.S. market. There, he has worked for DC Comics and Marvel on titles featuring characters such as Catwoman, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, X-Men, Spider-Man and Wolverine.
FML also marks the creative reunion of López and DeConnick, who had previously collaborated on some of the most acclaimed titles in contemporary American comics.
