Aragon's labor market lost jobs in the third quarter, while the number of people seeking work without finding it increased. The region ended September with 65,000 unemployed, 7,700 more than in June, a 13.53% rise in unemployment during the third quarter.
Unemployment rises in Aragon: 7,700 more jobless after summer as rate reaches 9.23%

The unemployment rate stood at 9.23%, below the Spanish average of 10.18%. This means that just over nine in every 100 people working or seeking employment in Aragon were unemployed.

FEWER JOBS THAN IN JUNE, BUT MORE THAN A YEAR AGO

During the summer months, the number of employed people in Aragon fell by 4,400, or 0.68%, to 638,900. However, compared with the same quarter of 2025, the region had 8,400 more employed people, an increase of 1.33%. Unemployment also rose from a year earlier: there were 6,100 more unemployed people than in the third quarter of 2025, an increase of 10.41%. Aragon therefore had more people working than a year ago, but also more people seeking work without finding it.

This can be explained by the growth of the active population, which includes people who work or are seeking employment. In Aragon, it reached 703,900 people, 3,400 more than in the previous quarter and 14,500 more than a year earlier. The activity rate stood at 59.05%, compared with 59.52% nationwide.

UNEMPLOYMENT AFFECTS WOMEN MORE

At the end of September, Aragon had 347,100 employed men and 291,800 employed women. Among unemployed people, the figures were more evenly balanced: 32,400 men and 32,600 women. Despite the similar number of unemployed people, the female unemployment rate was higher, at 10.04%, compared with 8.55% for men. The activity rate also showed differences: 64.01% of men were working or seeking employment, compared with 54.15% of women.

SPAIN SETS EMPLOYMENT RECORD, BUT UNEMPLOYMENT ALSO RISES

Across Spain, employment grew by 73,600 people during the third quarter, reaching a record 22.85 million workers. Even so, it was the most moderate increase for the summer months since 2019, despite the boost from foreign and female employment.

At the same time, unemployment increased by 95,900 people to 2.59 million, and the unemployment rate stood at 10.18%. It was the largest rise in unemployment during this period since the pandemic. Both figures increased because 169,500 people entered the labor market, more than the number who found work.
