These Are the Two Richest Families in Aragon on the 2026 Forbes List: They Are Worth €3.4 Billion

When it comes to Spain’s great fortunes, it is easy to guess the names at the top of the rankings: Amancio Ortega, founder of Inditex; his daughter Sandra Ortega; and Valencian businessman Juan Roig, owner of Mercadona supermarkets. However, some of the country’s most significant fortunes can be found without leaving Aragon. The new Forbes list of Spain’s 100 richest people in 2026 includes two Aragonese families whose combined estimated wealth amounts to €3.4 billion.

Specifically, these are the families that own SAMCA and those linked to Saica, two of Aragon’s major industrial groups, which have established themselves as leading businesses both in Spain and abroad. Their owners once again rank among the country’s wealthiest people, although both families have fallen down the rankings this year. In one case, however, the decline in the ranking contrasts with a significant increase in wealth compared with the previous year.

JAVIER AND GUILLERMO LUENGO, OWNERS OF SAMCA: €2.1 BILLION

Brothers Javier and Guillermo Luengo, together with their family, lead Aragon’s representation on the 2026 Forbes list. With an estimated fortune of €2.1 billion, they rank 21st nationally, allowing them to remain among Spain’s 25 largest fortunes.

Although they have fallen two places from 2025, when they ranked 19th, their wealth has continued to grow. In fact, according to data published by Forbes, their fortune increased by €200 million over the past year.

The family fortune is linked to Grupo Samca, the Aragonese industrial conglomerate founded by their grandfather, Ángel Luengo. Over the course of its history, the company has diversified its activities to establish a presence in sectors such as mining, renewable energy, the chemical industry and packaging manufacturing. Among its most notable business operations is the acquisition of Enso, a PET packaging manufacturer, through which Samca has strengthened its presence in the recycled plastics sector.

However, not everything revolves around business. The family is also involved in a legal dispute related to the family inheritance. As reported by Forbes, litigation challenging the validity of the succession agreement granted in favor of Javier and Guillermo Luengo is ongoing.

ÁNGEL RAMÓN BALET AND EDUARDO ARAGÜÉS, THE SAICA FAMILIES: €1.3 BILLION

The second major Aragonese fortune on the 2026 Forbes list belongs to Ángel Ramón Balet and Eduardo Aragüés, representatives of the families linked to Grupo Saica. Their combined wealth is estimated at €1.3 billion, placing them 46th in the national ranking. They, too, have fallen down the list. While they ranked 40th in 2025, they have dropped six places this year, although they remain among Spain’s 50 largest fortunes.

Their wealth is tied to Saica, one of the major industrial groups originating in Aragon, specializing in recycled paper production and sustainable packaging solutions. The company has expanded its operations across various international markets, becoming a leading European player in its sector.

The company is also undergoing a period of transformation under the leadership of Susana Alejandro Balet, who assumed the chairmanship and CEO position in 2024. Since then, the group has maintained its commitment to sustainability, innovation and international expansion. In this way, the families linked to Saica retain their place among Spain’s great fortunes and preserve their close ties to Aragon’s business community.
