Zaragoza Mayor Natalia Chueca presented the new flight offering on Friday, September 18, alongside Aragon President Jorge Azcón and Development Minister Octavio López. The project is part of a new five-year agreement that includes a total investment of €20.5 million by Zaragoza City Council. It is the largest municipal financial commitment to date to lead the city’s tourism and institutional promotion.
“Today is a strategic day for Zaragoza. When we talk about transport infrastructure and air connectivity, we are not talking only about planes or airports: we are talking about the ambition of a major capital that needed a network matching its economic, tourism and social importance,” the mayor highlighted during the presentation.
20 NEW CONNECTIONS FOR ZARAGOZA AIRPORT
The new destination map includes 20 new strategic routes in addition to the regular service, which already connected Zaragoza with established destinations such as London, Brussels, Rome, Milan and Marrakech. The expansion is spread across different areas considered key to improving connectivity.
In Central and Eastern Europe, direct links will open with capitals and rapidly growing hubs such as Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Warsaw, Krakow, Sofia, Pisa and Naples. As for business and international hubs, direct flights will be added to Manchester, Porto and Tangier, along with a direct connection to Switzerland through Basel, Zurich or Geneva.
The offering will also restore routes and strengthen domestic connections. Destinations such as Paris, Düsseldorf and Venice will return, while connectivity within Spain will expand to Santiago de Compostela, Alicante, Malaga and Ibiza.
In addition to the 31 destinations included in this agreement, the traditional route to Palma de Mallorca will continue to be part of Zaragoza Airport’s flight offering.
This extensive offering will provide a direct travel alternative for a catchment area of more than 2.8 million people living within 60 to 90 minutes of the airport. The aim is to surpass and consolidate the figures reached in 2025, when the airport handled more than 685,000 commercial passengers.
MORE TOURISM, BUSINESSES AND CONFERENCES FOR ZARAGOZA
The expansion of connections will have a direct impact on Zaragoza’s economic fabric. The arrival of potential visitors from key source markets will boost local spending, fill hotel rooms and energize the hospitality sector, while placing Zaragoza’s cuisine, cultural heritage and leisure offerings at the forefront of the European showcase.
The organizational leap will also directly benefit Zaragoza’s business and industrial ecosystem as a globally recognized logistics and innovation hub. Direct connections with major business centers will facilitate travel for executives, researchers and entrepreneurs and will also allow the city to compete to host major international congresses and conventions that require direct links.
In this regard, Natalia Chueca stressed the importance of gaining international weight: “Making it possible for a citizen of Prague, Warsaw or Manchester to fly directly to Zaragoza not only fills our hotels and restaurants, but also shows that connectivity means competitiveness. Zaragoza is ready to fly higher than ever.”
