Microsoft Data Centers in Aragon Move Forward Despite Decree: “We Are Sticking to Our Plans”

“We are sticking to our plans,” Microsoft officials confirmed at a meeting with journalists this Thursday, where they shared updates on their project in Parque Venecia. They also remained cautious until the final wording is known.

Regarding this legislation, Microsoft said it shares the sustainability, energy efficiency and security objectives underpinning these regulations, but noted that “the technical issues need to be analyzed.” The objections it submitted both individually and as part of the industry association are evidence of this.

CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARDS

Despite the potential impact of the decree, which the central government intends to approve before 29N, Microsoft is moving ahead with its expansion in Aragon. In this regard, the multinational company is carrying out an internal process to find contractors for the construction of these campuses. It aims to complete it by the end of the year and begin construction in 2027, after the associated PIGA receives final approval.

In addition, company representatives said they plan to hold a session at the beginning of the year with the Department of Economy of the Government of Aragon and the Chamber of Commerce so that major construction companies can connect with suppliers from Aragon. This contribution to the region is one of the aspects championed by Microsoft, which detailed that the contract awards include local hiring criteria.
