Since 2015, Mieladictos has been dedicated to finding and bringing the best Spanish honeys to the public, and this year it is doing so once again with its distinctive taste test. Blind sensory evaluation will remain the main attraction, although the 2026 edition comes with more awards and broadens its focus to young beekeepers, outreach and retailers that champion selling honey directly from producers.
AN AWARD FOR THE YOUNGEST BEEKEEPERS
One of the main new features will be the award for Best Young Beekeeper’s Honey, aimed at producers aged 30 or under. The organizers hope to give visibility to those starting their careers in beekeeping and highlight projects that can help ensure the sector’s generational renewal.
An award for Best Outreach Work is also being introduced. It will assess aspects such as packaging, social media presence, media coverage and activities related to bees and beekeeping. In addition, another award will recognize the physical or online retailer that does the most to promote beekeeper-produced honey and bring it closer to consumers.
ONLY HONEY PRODUCED AND HARVESTED IN SPAIN
To enter, beekeepers must produce and package their own honey, which must be 100% Spanish in origin and harvested during the 2026 season. Blends and products purchased from third parties will not be accepted. The competition accepts monofloral, multifloral, forest and mountain honeys.
TWELVE HONEYS WILL REACH THE FINAL
The samples will be assessed blindly by experts in sensory analysis, beekeeping technicians and specialists from the agri-food sector, who will consider aroma, flavor, texture and appearance, among other criteria. The selection will produce the 12 favorite honeys of 2026, which will compete in the final held in Burgos to decide which one will be named Spain’s Best Honey.
