Inflation in Aragon surges to 3.9% in August, highest rate since February 2023

Aragon has not escaped the general rise in prices. According to the National Statistics Institute, annual inflation stood at 3.9% in August, seven-tenths of a percentage point higher than in July, driven mainly by rising fuel prices. It is the highest rate since February 2023, although it remains below Spain’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), which climbed to 4.3%.

Transport drove this sharp rise in inflation, with an annual rate of 9.3%, three percentage points higher than in July. Within this category, the biggest increase was recorded in the use of personal vehicles: related costs such as fuel rose 17.1% over the past twelve months.

Household running costs also stood out, including electricity, gas and water bills, which increased by 7.6% over the past year, nearly one percentage point more than the previous month. The remaining groups recorded more moderate increases: information and communications (3.3%), personal care (3.2%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.0%).

The situation across Spain as a whole is not markedly different. The National Statistics Institute (INE) confirmed on Tuesday that the year-on-year CPI reached 4.3% in August, seven-tenths of a percentage point above July and the highest rate since February 2023, as had been indicated in the advance estimate.

Transport was the price group that had the greatest impact on the inflation rebound in August, rising by more than three percentage points to 9.5%, its highest level since August 2022. This was mainly due to higher prices for fuels and lubricants for personal vehicles, which fell in August 2025.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages also had a significant impact on the CPI, with its annual rate reaching 2.3%, seven-tenths of a percentage point above the previous month. This was mainly due to fruit and nuts prices, which decreased but by less than in the same month of 2025.
