This dual reality is a constant at the airport. With its cargo figures, the Aragonese facility reaffirms its status as a key logistics hub within Spain's airport network, ranking third. Meanwhile, Zaragoza sits near the bottom of the passenger ranking in 28th place, far below what might be expected given the city's size, but affected by its proximity to Madrid and Barcelona.
PASSENGER NUMBERS FAIL TO TAKE OFF
Regarding commercial aviation, Zaragoza Airport recorded 63,717 passengers in August 2026, a slight monthly increase of 1.4% compared with July. However, the figure represents a 13.8% drop compared with August 2025, when 73,934 passengers were recorded.
This passenger figure places the Aragonese capital as the 28th destination. Above it are Granada-Jaén Airport, with 85,721 passengers; Vigo, with 101,011; and A Coruña, with 112,122. Behind it are Melilla, with 50,710 passengers; San Sebastián, with 46,874; and El Hierro, with 35,158.
Meanwhile, in terms of cargo, Zaragoza consolidated its third-place position in the Aena network in August, surpassed only by Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat. While the Madrid terminal topped the table with 59,695,246 kilograms and the Barcelona airport recorded 17,588,023 kilograms, the Aragonese city narrowed the gap with the Catalan airport thanks to the boost in activity over the past month.
Year-on-year cargo traffic trends varied among the country's three leading freight airports in August. Both Barcelona-El Prat and Zaragoza recorded increases compared with August 2025, of 8.5% and 4.8%, respectively, while Madrid-Barajas posted a 12.0% decline.
