The increase was also recorded compared with a year earlier. Compared with August 2025, Aragon has 1,693 more unemployed people, a 3.49% increase. By province, Zaragoza has the highest number of people out of work, with 39,217, followed by Huesca, with 6,860, and Teruel, with 4,097.
Nationwide, unemployment stands at 2,355,918 people, below the 2.4 million mark. Although the number of unemployed people increased in August, it is worth noting that it remains at its lowest level for this month since 2007, before the financial crisis.
UNEMPLOYMENT RISES IN ALL THREE PROVINCES
Unemployment increased in August in all three Aragonese provinces. Zaragoza added 718 unemployed people, 1.86% more than the previous month; Huesca recorded 214 additional unemployed people, an increase of 3.22%; and Teruel registered 13 more, up 0.32%. In year-on-year terms, the largest percentage increase occurred in Huesca, at 8.75%.
By sector, none managed to reduce unemployment in August. The largest increase occurred in services, with 458 more unemployed people, followed by those seeking their first job, with 252. Unemployment also rose in industry, by 112; construction, by 82; and agriculture, by 41. Services continues to be the sector with the most unemployed people, at 34,017.Ç
CONTRACTS DECLINE COMPARED WITH JULY
During August, 38,167 contracts were signed in Aragon, 11,716 fewer than in July, representing a monthly decline of 23.49%. However, hiring improved compared with the same month in 2025, with 4,083 more contracts, an increase of 11.98%. Of the total, 12,927 were permanent and 25,240 temporary.
Women continue to represent the majority of unemployed people in Aragon, with 30,524 unemployed women, accounting for 60.84% of the total, compared with 19,650 men. In addition, 42,078 people were receiving some type of unemployment benefit at the end of August, while total spending on this support reached 52 million euros.
