The project brings together technology centers, universities and research organizations from various European countries. They are all collaborating on the development of new materials, automated manufacturing processes and digital tools to build more advanced aircraft components and accelerate their adoption by industry.
RECYCLABLE MATERIALS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
One of the main challenges is reducing aircraft weight without compromising safety, performance or durability. To achieve this, ATLAS is focusing on advanced, recyclable composite materials combined with automated manufacturing systems, a formula intended to improve process efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of the aerospace industry.
Digitalization also plays a key role. The projects are investigating the use of digital twins and artificial intelligence to improve the design and manufacturing of parts, study their performance throughout their entire service life and support decision-making. Work is also underway on virtual certification systems capable of streamlining the validation of new aeronautical solutions.
EUROPEAN EXPERTS MEET AT ITA
On Thursday, September 17, ITA is bringing together specialists and representatives of the ATLAS Cluster projects for the “Wings of Change” event, dedicated to sharing progress on sustainable airframe structures. Topics discussed include recyclable materials, automated manufacturing, artificial intelligence, virtual certification and new aircraft concepts.
Aragonese participation also seeks to strengthen the role of technology centers as a bridge between research and businesses. Cooperation among the different projects will make it possible to share results, identify potential synergies and accelerate the introduction into industry of technologies intended for a new generation of more efficient and sustainable aircraft.
