Zero alcohol behind the wheel: Zaragoza Local Police to get new precision breathalyzers

Detecting drivers who get behind the wheel after drinking requires instruments capable of providing reliable readings. To that end, Zaragoza City Council is preparing to purchase two new evidential breathalyzers for the Local Police. The devices will be used for alcohol tests during traffic checks and interventions related to road safety.

The purchase has been put out to tender through the municipal Procurement Profile, with a budget of 18,147.58 euros, including VAT. The contract covers both devices, as well as the accessories and equipment required for their proper use and commissioning.

The measure responds to the need to renew and expand the technical resources available so officers can carry out these tests reliably and maintain service continuity whenever one of the devices has to undergo an inspection, verification or repair.

REINFORCEMENT FOR ALCOHOL TESTING CHECKS

The new breathalyzers will improve the Local Police's operational capacity and ensure that enough equipment is available to handle the various services. According to the contract documents, these instruments are necessary both to process reports for administrative offences and to conduct tests during interventions where there are indications of a possible road safety offence.

The purchase also aims to ensure that officers can continue carrying out checks even if one of the available devices is temporarily out of service due to a breakdown or maintenance. Having replacement equipment will help reduce the impact of such incidents on police operations.
