The initiative will run for four consecutive Saturdays: October 24 and 31, and November 7 and 14. During these sessions, traders will be able to assess whether opening on Saturdays attracts more visitors and boosts commercial activity. The extension follows a request from the Open-Air Markets Board, which has been calling for changes to revitalize the flea market.
MORE THAN 450 STALLS
Visitors will find the Rastro's usual selection, including clothing, shoes, frying pans, accessories and household goods, among other brand-new products at affordable prices. The market has capacity for 453 stalls and continues to operate on its traditional Wednesdays and Sundays, as well as designated public holidays. The difference between the two days is significant: while the Expo parking lot attracts many shoppers and curious visitors on Sundays, attendance and sales on Wednesdays are much lower.
The trial will help determine whether Saturday becomes a third weekly market day or whether changes should be made to the current schedule. After these four dates, Zaragoza City Council will be able to assess the response from shoppers and vendors before deciding how to proceed. For now, the first opportunity to see whether the Rastro also works on Saturdays will come this weekend.
