Zaragoza residents will once again choose what they consider the city's best potato omelets. New contenders will seek to join a list of winners that already includes Zeppelin Café, Cabuchico -on two occasions-, Coscos, Crack, Casa Pascualillo and El Olivo.
The League aims to recognize, with the help of its more than eighty collaborators -the referees-, the best potato omelet served regularly. This is understood to mean one made with eggs, potato, olive oil and, optionally, onion, and recognizable as an omelet. The goal is not to innovate, but to improve the quality of the omelets served in Zaragoza, something any enthusiast has been able to see since the League was founded in 2017.
The contest format has barely changed in this edition. The selected judges, or referees, will visit the participating establishments following an elimination system. They will face each other in pairs, with only one advancing to the second round.
The competition will begin on October 26 with the preseason, and entries are still open.
ENTRIES, DATES AND HOW THE LEAGUE WORKS
Any establishment in Zaragoza city, whether a bar or restaurant, can participate as long as it regularly serves potato omelet, at least from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or until the usual supply runs out. Registration is free and can be completed by email at ligatortilla@adico.es or via WhatsApp at 682 830 711.
After the preseason, from October 26 to 31, the group stage will begin, running from November 2 to 8. From then on, the contest will continue in a cup format. The round of 16 and quarterfinals will take place from November 16 to 22, leading to the grand final, featuring the four semifinalists, in early December.
Everyone will compete with their usual potato omelet. Except on each establishment's regular closing days, the mandatory hours during which the public can taste the omelets and participate with their telephone votes will be at least from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., although they may be served at any time. The price of a portion is up to each establishment, although maintaining the usual price is recommended.
The referees will award their goals, while the linesmen's votes, submitted through the app itself, will be used to resolve ties. The following criteria will be taken into account when scoring: overall assessment of the omelet, juiciness, presentation, taste and temperature, service and attitude, hygiene, and so on. There will also be special awards for the best use of potatoes and handling of eggs, as well as for sportsmanship.
