The information campaign follows the introduction, in March 2025, of household organic waste collection into Valdespartera’s pneumatic collection system. Since then, the facility has been equipped to collect three waste streams—residual waste, packaging and organic waste—and has already handled around 130 tonnes of the third stream.
The campaign will feature two information points, one at the Valdespartera Market and another along Mago de Oz, staffed by a team of environmental educators who will explain how the system works to local residents, answer questions and provide practical information about which waste should be placed in the organic waste stream.
“We know that not all kitchens have enough space for several containers. But we must be aware that organic waste collection is very important. That is why we want to continue emphasizing this issue, and it is what we will focus on throughout 2027,” said Mobility and Environment Councillor Tatiana Gaudes.
The initiative will place particular emphasis on the importance of separating organic waste at source, using sturdy and securely closed bags, avoiding the disposal of large quantities of waste at once, and not leaving bags or other materials outside the disposal inlets.
A SYSTEM THAT FACILITATES WASTE SEPARATION
Pneumatic organic waste collection is an automated system that transports waste through a network of underground pipes using vacuum suction. It began operating in Valdespartera in 2007 and has two collection stations serving 13,500 homes and more than 43,000 residents.
