Zaragoza’s Blue and Orange Parking Zones to Change: Who Will Be Able to Park for Free

Families with children under three will be able to park one vehicle for free in Zaragoza’s blue and orange zones from 2027. The measure, added to the draft 2027 Tax Ordinances after a vote on amendments in the City Council’s Finance Committee, was proposed by Vox and passed with the support of the People’s Party and non-aligned councillor Marisa Gaspar, while the PSOE and Zaragoza en Común abstained.

The proposal was put forward by Vox, which argued for extending this benefit to families with children aged between zero and three. The initiative has now been added to the draft 2027 Tax Ordinances, which must still complete the approval process and receive final approval from the municipal Plenary.

The measure expands the benefit to families with young children and does not restrict it to large families. Similarly, it was proposed that free parking could apply to one vehicle registered to one of the child’s legal guardians within the city’s regulated parking system.

MEASURE AIMED AT FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN

Vox municipal spokesperson Eva Torres presented the proposal as part of the package of measures submitted by her group for the Tax Ordinances, with the aim of providing particular support to families with young children and vulnerable households. The party had also proposed other changes related to regulated parking, although not all of them were approved.

These included keeping the surcharge for exceeding the time limit at eight euros, instead of the 20 euros planned after exceeding four hours, and halving the new rates for professional permits for self-employed workers, shops and workshops. However, these proposals did not receive support.
