Zaragoza reaches this stage after reaching the final of this European recognition for the first time. The Zaragoza bid is competing against Aalborg (Denmark), Bielsko-Biala (Poland), Košice (Slovakia) and Porto (Portugal). On Wednesday, the five cities will have to present their projects and convince the jury that they have the policies and progress needed to lead the transition toward a more sustainable urban model.
WHAT ZARAGOZA'S PROPOSAL LOOKS LIKE
Zaragoza's proposal is based on indicators related to air quality, water consumption, nature and biodiversity, waste, noise, and the fight against and adaptation to climate change. The city also wants to highlight its urban transformation in recent years, from the recovery and creation of green spaces to reductions in water consumption and emissions, as well as projects such as the Bosque de los Zaragozanos.
After the bids are presented, the decisive moment will arrive. On Thursday afternoon, Guimarães will announce which city will take over as European Green Capital 2028. Zaragoza is thus facing two key days in Portugal with the backing of more than 150 organizations that have sent letters of support for its bid. Among those accompanying the delegation is Aragón Digital, which has traveled to Guimarães to report from there on the defense of Zaragoza's bid.
