Vive Latino to Become Green Vive Latino, with a Tree Planted for Every Ticket Sold

Zaragoza has passed the European assessment, and among the proposals it presented in Guimarães is a particularly striking one: Green Vive Latino. The well-known festival held in September will undergo changes this year. If the city is named European Green Capital 2028, a tree will be planted for every ticket sold. The initiative is part of the more than 150 actions the bid plans to develop during the year of the title under the slogan "Zaragoza Cares. Naturally," with the aim of turning the designation into a program involving the people of Zaragoza.

Mayor Natalia Chueca led the delegation that defended Zaragoza's bid before the international jury on Wednesday, accompanied by Tatiana Gaudes, councillor for the Environment and Mobility, and Blanca Solans, councillor for Finance and European Funds. Zaragoza has reached the final for the first time and is competing with Aalborg, Bielsko-Biala, Košice and Porto to succeed Heilbronn, which holds the title of European Green Capital 2027.

EBRO VIVO FOR THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE EXPO

After the presentation, Chueca said the initial impressions had been "very positive" and highlighted that the jury had recognized the "very high standard" of the bid's defense. Among the proposals put forward, in addition to Green Vive Latino, is Ebro Vivo, a program that would restore the river's prominence and commemorate the 20th anniversary of Expo 2008. The bid brings together initiatives related to nature, water, the circular economy, adaptation to climate change and citizen participation.

The verdict will be announced tomorrow, Thursday, October 8, from 9 p.m., at a ceremony to be held in Guimarães. If Zaragoza wins the title, the goal will be to use that year to promote the city internationally and, above all, bring sustainability into the daily lives of its residents.
