The essence will remain the same, although the return will come with new features that, for now, are still being kept secret. La Republicana, which runs the establishment and is already working on its reopening, announced the news on social media. "Our Bodeguilla de Santa Cruz will reopen very soon," it said, without yet giving a specific date. It did make its intention for this new chapter clear: to preserve the character the venue has always had while introducing changes to its offering.
STews, CASSEROLES, VERMOUTH AND MEMORIES OF ITS GRILLED SNAILS
La Bodeguilla de Santa Cruz has been one of those small establishments associated for years with the most traditional tapas in central Zaragoza. Its tables have featured stews, frying pans and casseroles, as well as dishes such as potatoes with mojo picón, croquettes, migas, dressed tomatoes and ham. These were joined by sandwiches and a selection of wines and vermouths, in an offering closely linked to the venue’s character as a traditional wine bar.
But there is one dish that some customers remember in particular: the grilled snails. News of the reopening has prompted former regulars to share memories of the venue on social media. "I still remember those wonderful grilled snails," one of them wrote. La Republicana replied by recalling the many snails and moments experienced within those walls, adding that it would soon be time to create new stories.
That was not the only reaction. Other former customers welcomed the establishment’s return enthusiastically after three years of closure. "I’m glad to know it will reopen. I hope everything goes wonderfully for you," one user wrote, while another comment summed up the response to the reopening with: "What great news." Expectations are growing as La Republicana continues to keep part of the secret: what will change and what will remain untouched when this small wine bar in Zaragoza’s Old Town raises its shutters once again.
