San José returns to the streets with its “Route of Shame” to denounce neighborhood shortcomings

The San José Neighborhood Association will once again take residents into the streets this Sunday, October 25, for a new edition of the "Route of Shame," a march aimed at highlighting the neighborhood’s shortcomings and demanding social and urban improvements. The march will begin at 11:00 a.m. from Miraflores station and pass through different parts of the district, drawing attention to the issues concerning its residents.

Among the association's main demands are the construction of a new health center and opposition to diverting public resources toward private healthcare. The event will also denounce cuts to public education and call for more resources to be allocated to public services, in response to what organizers consider a loss of resources in favor of private education.

Urban development in this Zaragoza neighborhood will be another key focus of the protest. Organizers want to draw attention to projects they consider speculative on public land, including developments planned on vacant lots in the neighborhood. These demands are joined by a call for greater investment in public spaces, as well as better maintenance of communal areas and the services used by San José residents.

The day will also have a festive, community-focused element. Organizers plan to end the route with a musical performance and a vermouth gathering. With the slogan of taking to the streets to defend the neighborhood, the association is encouraging residents to take part in a mobilization intended to highlight San José's needs.
