Pedro Cerbuna Street works extended by 15 days for 'essential' repairs

The comprehensive renovation of Pedro Cerbuna Street in the Universidad district will include additional work after construction uncovered previously unanticipated defects in the sewer network. Zaragoza City Council has authorized the preparation of a modified project, estimated to cost €372,742.54, to replace deteriorated pipes and improve cycling connections around the university area.
Pedro Cerbuna Street works extended by 15 days for 'essential' repairs

The works, awarded to Áridos y Excavaciones Carmelo Lobera, began in May and affect around 570 meters of the street, with a total investment of close to €2.9 million. The renovation aims to transform one of the district's main thoroughfares, with wider sidewalks, new green areas, improved accessibility and LED lighting, as well as upgrades to the water supply and sewer networks. The municipal schedule had set March 2027 as the date for the street to be fully completed and reopened to traffic.

The main change in the modified project will be the replacement of 123 linear meters of pipes between Domingo Miral and Violante de Hungría streets, where their structural condition and watertightness were found to be worse than expected. Nine residential connections between Domingo Miral and San Francisco Square will also be replaced after their deterioration was confirmed through inspections with a robotic video camera.

NEW BIKE LANE SECTION AND 15 MORE DAYS OF WORK

The modification will also include a short section of bike lane between San Francisco Square and Corona de Aragón Street, with the aim of improving cycling connectivity and strengthening the safety of students and users accessing the university campus. This measure adds to the mobility improvements and the bidirectional bike lane planned in another section of the renovation.

To avoid causing greater disruption to residents and students, the works have been authorized to continue provisionally while the modified project is processed. The intervention will include a 15-calendar-day extension to the execution period, as work continues in phases.
