They also include façades visible from the Stone Bridge and the banks of the Ebro, as well as other listed buildings or those considered to have special architectural or historical interest, as identified and endorsed by the city council. The call for applications aims to improve the urban landscape and contribute to the preservation of the heritage of the Aragonese capital.
The grants will cover up to 45% of the eligible budget, with a maximum of €60,000 per building. “The objective is urban revitalization and also the recovery of our city’s architectural heritage,” said Housing Councillor José Miguel Rodrigo, who stressed that this is a new line of support in Zaragoza and expands the city’s housing strategy.
UP TO €40,000 FOR FAÇADE IMPROVEMENTS
The largest grant, of up to €40,000, will be reserved for cleaning and treating façades, walls and exterior woodwork. In addition, up to €10,000 may be awarded to restore original ornamental features, and a further €10,000 to install energy-efficient ornamental lighting in buildings whose main façades have some degree of protection under Zaragoza’s General Urban Development Plan.
The grants will be financed with funds left over from previous residential renovation calls for 2021-2022 and 2024-2025. They may be requested by homeowners’ associations, groups of homeowners’ associations and sole owners of residential buildings, although the properties must meet a series of requirements to ensure that the work is carried out on buildings in good condition.
Applicants will therefore need to have a favorable ITE inspection when one is mandatory and submit a technical report certifying the absence of serious conservation and energy-efficiency deficiencies. In protected buildings, a favorable report from the Heritage Department will also be required. The application period will be 90 calendar days from the publication of the rules in the BOPZ and, once the grant has been awarded, applicants will have 12 months to complete the work, exceptionally extendable by a further six months.
