New 57-home affordable housing project takes shape in Zaragoza neighborhood

The construction of 57 affordable homes in Santa Isabel and the renovation of dozens of streets will be two of Zaragoza’s next urban development projects. The City Council has awarded a municipal plot for 2.12 million euros to build officially protected housing. It has also approved a framework agreement allowing up to 17.4 million euros to be invested in paving works over the next four years.

The plot designated for affordable housing is located in the F-71-7 area of Santa Isabel, between Río Gállego Street and the area’s new roads and pedestrian paths. The site covers 2,000 square meters and will allow up to 57 homes to be built. The contract has been awarded to the Terrazas de Juan Bosco cooperative, which must apply for the planning permit within a maximum of three months. Once it obtains the permit, it will have 18 months to complete construction.

NEW AGREEMENT TO RENOVATE STREETS

Meanwhile, the City Council has approved the proposed award of the new framework agreement to renovate street surfaces, with an initial budget of 8.7 million euros for two years and the possibility of extending it to four. The contract is divided into two lots: one for major paving projects and another for smaller-scale interventions. The selected companies include COPHA, Papsa Infraestructuras, Vialex Constructora Aragonesa and Firmeza Solutions.

The first project to be launched under this system will be the second phase of the 2026 Asphalt Operation, which will have a budget of 1.25 million euros to renew 32,809 square meters of roadway across 32 streets in 19 districts and rural neighborhoods. The work is scheduled for late November and will add to the interventions carried out throughout the year to improve road surfaces and traffic safety.
