Nearly 300 municipalities in Zaragoza to receive aid to renovate streets and improve services

A new Zaragoza Provincial Council aid program will fund street renovations, improvements to basic services and road upgrades in 292 municipalities. The provincial institution announced a new edition of its Agenda 2030 plan on Friday, with a budget of 22 million euros to improve municipal infrastructure and help fight depopulation.

Of the 22 million euros, 11 million will be allocated to repairing roads and another 11 million to improving basic municipal services, such as street paving, water supply, sanitation, public lighting, security, parks and gardens, and waste management. The rules were published this Friday in the Official Gazette of the Province of Zaragoza, and town halls will be able to submit their applications until next October 24.

“Rural development must also be sustainable, which is why the Zaragoza Provincial Council’s Agenda 2030 plan fulfills two fundamental objectives for us: continuing to fight depopulation by improving services and infrastructure in our towns, while also helping Zaragoza’s town halls move closer to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) most closely linked to local government responsibilities,” said its president, Juan Antonio Sánchez Quero. He noted that the successive calls for applications launched by the DPZ under the Agenda 2030 plan now total 97 million euros.

EACH MUNICIPALITY WILL RECEIVE BETWEEN 48,000 AND 436,000 EUROS

The rules of the call detail the exact distribution formula and the amount allocated to each town hall both for road repairs and for improvements to basic municipal services. Grants will therefore range from the 436,000 euros that Ejea de los Caballeros will receive in total to the 48,000 euros that Pleitas will be allocated.

Once the plan has been approved, the Zaragoza Provincial Council will advance 90% of the grants to the town halls before the end of the year, while the remaining 10% will be paid in 2027 once the completion of the requested investments has been documented. The implementation period for the projects runs from January 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027, provided that the project begins in 2026.
