The Music Kiosk Prepares for Major Renovation, with Work to Begin Before Year-End

After years of waiting and a failed first attempt, the restoration of one of Parque Grande’s most recognizable landmarks is taking shape. Zaragoza City Council has put out to tender the construction management service for the restoration of the Music Kiosk, another step toward work starting before the end of 2026. Companies interested in taking on the task have until October 19 to submit their bids.

The contract for this service has a budget of 17,458 euros, including VAT, and an expected duration of 180 days. Work on the kiosk, one of the most recognizable features of José Antonio Labordeta Park, will involve an investment of more than 430,000 euros and is expected to take six months.

The aim is to restore a structure that has accompanied Zaragoza residents on their walks for decades but now requires work to preserve its heritage value.

A MODERNIST JEWEL OF ZARAGOZA

This is not the first time the City Council has tried to launch the restoration. In 2025, it put the project out to tender, but the process received no bids and the work was never carried out. Now, with a new tender for the construction work and the process of hiring its technical management under way, the council hopes to unblock a long-pending intervention in one of the park’s most distinctive spaces.

The history of the Music Kiosk dates back to 1908, when it was built in Plaza de los Sitios for the Hispano-French Exhibition. Designed by brothers Manuel and José Martínez de Ubago, this example of modernist architecture stands out for its iron columns, botanical ornamental elements and distinctive roof.

After also being located on Paseo de la Independencia and returning to Plaza de los Sitios, it found its current home in Parque Grande in 1968. Nearly six decades later, it is set for a new refurbishment.
