The work will be divided into two lots worth €375,000 each. Rey Ardid will be responsible for maintaining the 3,856 trees in the schoolyards, including pruning, inspections, pest control, replacement of specimens and new plantings. Consolida Oliver, meanwhile, will care for the landscaped areas, which cover 64,621 square meters, carrying out mowing, brush clearing, hedge trimming and irrigation system maintenance.
CRITERIA
The contract includes environmental criteria to promote biodiversity and improve the thermal comfort of the courtyards. Among other measures, biological and preventive methods will be prioritized for pest control, the use of synthetic chemical herbicides will be avoided, and mowing frequency will be adjusted to encourage the presence of pollinating insects. Irrigation systems will also be inspected to reduce water consumption and repair any possible faults.
The contract award also has a social component, as the contract is reserved for special employment centers with a social mission and work-integration companies. In this way, the maintenance of the school green infrastructure is linked to creating job opportunities for people with disabilities or those facing greater difficulties accessing the labor market. The initiative complements the city council's “Adapt Your Courtyard” project, which focuses on rewilding school spaces.
