Minute of Silence and Condemnation Over Pilar Festival Sexual Assault: "This Cannot Happen"

The Aragonese capital has expressed its rejection of the sexual assault reported this past Wednesday at La Misericordia Bullring during the Pilar Festival with a minute of silence outside Zaragoza City Hall. Mayor Natalia Chueca led the condemnation ceremony, which was also attended by some festival club members, to convey support and solidarity to the victim.

After receiving notification from the Government Delegation, Zaragoza City Council activated the municipal protocol against sexist attacks and issued a statement of condemnation. In addition, the activities on the festival program were interrupted for five minutes as a sign of rejection, in accordance with the procedure established for such cases when a report has been filed.

Chueca stressed the "absolute rejection" of this type of conduct, both during the festivities and at any other time. "People need to understand that this cannot happen. No festival or moment of enjoyment should be affected by this type of assault," the mayor said.

RESPECT FOR WOMEN DURING AND OUTSIDE THE PILAR FESTIVAL

The mayor insisted on the need to ensure that all women can enjoy the celebrations freely and without fear of suffering sexual violence. "All women, of every age and at all times, must be respected," she said, before emphasizing that "women must be free to feel at ease without having to be subjected to any form of sexual assault, whatever its nature."
