The association believes that the current traffic regulations do not guarantee the safety of pedestrians or drivers at a point where, it says, several accidents have already occurred. Residents argue that the signage being installed to give priority to pedestrians crossing the road does not resolve the existing risk at the intersection.
According to municipal traffic-count data held by the association, more than 12,000 vehicles travel through this point every day in both directions. This volume of traffic is further compounded by bus routes 23, 31 and C4, which residents say makes full traffic-light regulation necessary.
A LONG-STANDING DEMAND FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD
The demand is not new. The La Paz Neighborhood Association recalls that nearly six years ago it welcomed Zaragoza City Council’s announcement that traffic lights would be installed at the intersection of Zafiro and Alhama de Aragón streets. However, residents complain that, despite all this time having passed, the project has still not been carried out.
For this reason, the neighborhood organization has decided to strengthen its demand by collecting signatures among residents so that a response is given to a request it considers “very necessary” both for those traveling in private vehicles and for public transport users and, especially, pedestrians.
