The changes introduced this year by the City Council to reduce paperwork will allow many more families to access the first payment of these €700 or €1,000 grants without having to correct errors or subsequently submit new documentation. This is despite applications increasing by 5.4% compared with those registered in 2025, when a total of 2,254 families applied.
FEWER FORMS AND FAR FEWER CORRECTIONS
One of the main new features concerns documentation. Until now, a significant number of applicants had to provide certificates or subsequently correct their applications. In the previous round, 1,525 applications required corrections. This year, the figure is 660, representing a reduction of nearly 57%.
The key is that the Municipal Education and Libraries Board can directly access, provided the family authorizes it, information already held by other public administrations. The board’s manager, Jorge Gonzalo, explained that by signing the relevant annex, officials can verify data such as income, registration at the address or certain certificates without requiring applicants to gather and submit it themselves.
Paloma Espinosa said the aim is precisely to “make the process easier for families, prevent errors and reduce subsequent requests for documentation.” The initial results, she noted, show that the measure has significantly streamlined the entire procedure.
Reducing the administrative steps also has a direct impact on the timetable. The City Council estimates that it has cut the time needed to reach the first resolution by “more than three months” compared with the previous round. The municipal forecast is that, once the legal procedures have been completed and the resolution approved, the first payments could begin in late September or early October.
GRANTS OF UP TO €1,000 IN ZARAGOZA
Zaragoza’s Family Check is aimed at families with children enrolled in private early childhood education centers in the city. The municipal grants amount to €700 or €1,000, depending on the circumstances and the financial, personal and family requirements established in each round.
Since the first pilot edition was launched in 2022, Zaragoza City Council has allocated more than €6.5 million to the Family Check. According to municipal data, these grants will have reached around 5,500 families, with the aim of helping cover the cost of early childhood education and facilitating work-life balance.
