Expo redevelopment advances: Water Tower to get a digital facade

Many of the buildings and furnishings built for the 2008 International Expo in Zaragoza are being given a new lease of life. Work is already underway to redevelop the Water Tower, including the installation of an elevator to a panoramic observation deck at the top of the building.
Expo redevelopment advances: Water Tower to get a digital facade

The Government of Aragon is now taking another step by putting out to tender the installation of a new digital facade at a cost of nearly 8 million euros. A dynamic lighting system will be installed to replace the current one, which, after 18 years, is experiencing operational problems and is energy inefficient.

This project is being carried out alongside the civil works, installations and elevator upgrades at the Water Tower, which have already been awarded. The aim is to provide the tower with a program of activities. After the Expo, when it operated as a thematic pavilion, it remained without a defined use and was opened only occasionally for specific events.

NEW CARTV HEADQUARTERS

Meanwhile, the Regional Government Cabinet has also approved the refurbishment of the Ebro 3 pavilion, which will become the new headquarters of the Aragonese Radio and Television Corporation (CARTV). It has been unused since the Expo closed.

The tender is divided into two lots, covering civil works and installations, and companies may bid for one or both. The maximum period for completing all the work will be 20 months, and the maximum budget amounts to 33,341,279.61 euros.
