DPZ firefighters temporarily suspend protests as talks resume

The SOS DPZ Firefighters Platform has temporarily suspended planned protests against the Zaragoza Provincial Council (DPZ) after negotiations resumed to address the state of the service. The canceled actions include a rally scheduled for Friday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. in the Zaragoza town of Ariza.

The decision came after a meeting held on October 8 between workers’ representatives, trade unions and officials from the Zaragoza Provincial Council. During the meeting, both sides addressed the main outstanding issues and agreed to hold a new meeting next Thursday, October 15, at 12:00 p.m., in an attempt to move toward a solution.

A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR NEGOTIATIONS

At that next meeting, the provincial institution has committed to presenting “concrete and tangible proposals” in response to the demands put forward by the firefighters’ representatives. For their part, the workers have opted to temporarily halt the protests as a gesture of goodwill to encourage dialogue and give negotiations an opportunity.

Nevertheless, SOS DPZ Firefighters warns that suspending the mobilizations does not mean abandoning its demands. Workers’ representatives insist on the need to reach agreements that improve both their working conditions and the quality of the service provided to the public, with specific commitments and defined implementation deadlines.

October 15 will be a key date for the future of the protests, as workers will assess the council’s proposals and any progress before deciding on their next steps. The platform hopes this new opportunity for dialogue will help break the deadlock and open a period of constructive negotiations leading to effective solutions.
