Complaints Over Litter and Vandalism Multiply in Valdespartera During the Pilar Festival

Broken glass, smashed car mirrors, remnants of street drinking and litter in building entrances and parks. Valdespartera residents have begun drawing attention to situations they say are recurring in different parts of the neighborhood during the festive nights of the Pilar Festival. The complaints come as celebrations are in full swing, when the area hosts a significant share of Zaragoza’s festivities, with the fairgrounds and Espacio Zity concerts among its main attractions.

Through posts shared on social media and comments from residents in a Facebook group linked to the Los Montes de Valdespartera Neighborhood Association, they describe problems affecting both public roads and the common areas of residential buildings. The complaints range from damage to private vehicles to litter at tram stops, remnants of street drinking and antisocial behavior in parks and passageways.

In response to the situation, the association has encouraged residents to submit their complaints through Zaragoza City Council’s website and document the incidents. In cases of vandalism involving homes or cars, they also remind residents that the corresponding reports must be filed. The organization says it will continue collecting the testimonies sent to it in order to publicize them.

CONDOMS AND EXCREMENT IN COMMON AREAS

The complaints also extend inside buildings. Some residents say they have found condoms in entrances and elevators, as well as human excrement in common areas. The accumulation of waste in public spaces is a particular concern for those who use the parks daily. "It is impossible to go to the park with my baby or my dog without them eating some disgusting thing," one of the testimonies shared complains, also mentioning the presence of broken glass and food scraps.

Residents say that the problems with cleanliness and vandalism are compounded by noise and the high number of cars, as well as difficulties getting home by public transport.
