Asked this Saturday about the neighborhood protests held on Friday and the possibility of meeting with those affected, Chueca said she is always willing to listen to residents’ complaints. However, she said the opinions she has personally received have not been protests, but rather that “in general I am receiving a great many congratulations from residents who live on the square and from people in the surrounding area".
CHUECA DEFENDS THE NEW SAN MIGUEL SQUARE
The mayor insisted that the transformation of San Miguel Square has received widespread praise, particularly for the recovery of space for pedestrians. "It looks like a setting, it looks like a fairytale square," she said, conveying the opinions that, according to her, residents have shared with her. She highlighted that “where there used to be vehicles, there is now space for pedestrians, green areas and trees”.
Regarding the latter point, the mayor defended the fact that “there are more trees than there were previously”, although she acknowledged that they will still need to grow to provide more shade. In any case, she described the outcome of the project as "wonderful" and reiterated that the feedback she is receiving is highly favorable.
