Zaragoza's Economy Councillor, Carlos Gimeno, said municipal technicians will inspect "each and every street" where works are being carried out after several businesses around San Miguel Square complained that they had been left out of the subsidies. "If, for whatever reasons, it has had to be extended and another entrance is included, then of course it will be included," he said. The aim is for the aid boundaries to reflect the impact businesses are actually experiencing, rather than solely the initial plans for the works.
AID WORTH UP TO 400 EUROS PER MONTH
The direct aid has a budget of 150,000 euros this year and provides up to 400 euros for each full month affected, with a maximum of 1,200 euros per quarter. It is aimed at self-employed workers and microenterprises operating street-level retail shops and personal services businesses affected by long-term municipal works and able to prove a reduction in income.
At the same time, the city council is preparing a new special "Volveremos" campaign for businesses affected by construction works, offering a 15% incentive on purchases that will be separate from this direct aid. Gimeno said the campaign will be launched "very soon," although a date has not yet been set.
