20 Years Ago in Aragon: Video Games, Reptiles and Science Took Center Stage at Zaragoza's General Fair

Twenty years ago, Aragón Digital was already reporting the stories shaping current affairs in Aragon. On October 4, 2006, Zaragoza's General Fair was finalizing preparations for its 66th edition, featuring attractions ranging from video games and reptiles to science, international cuisine and motoring.

The event was set to bring together 287 exhibitors, including 40 international and 237 national exhibitors. The Fair's then-president, Manuel Teruel, presented a program designed for audiences of all ages under the slogan “Come to the Fair's party,” in an event closely linked to the Pilar Festivities.

Attractions included a FIFA tournament, a reptile exhibition presented as the most important in Europe and a renovated Science Pavilion. The latter was returning for the third consecutive year and, according to the then regional minister for Science, Technology and Universities, Ángela Abós, was doubling the number of activities. Its four areas focused on the Earth's interior, the Earth's crust, the atmosphere and outer space.

The Fair was also setting aside significant space for the automotive sector, with a worldwide presentation of new models, while Aragon's counties were sharing a pavilion with projects such as Dinópolis and Pirenarium, Expo 2008 and Milla Digital. Real Zaragoza was set to lend some of its main trophies, and several players were scheduled to sign autographs.

The offering was rounded out by tourism, art, home furnishings, decoration and international cuisine. To make travel easier, the organizers announced 100 buses from different parts of Zaragoza. Admission cost six euros for adults and three euros for children, seniors and holders of the youth card.

Video games, reptiles, scientific experiments, cars and even autographs from Real Zaragoza players made up that General Fair as it prepared to open its doors. That is how we reported it in Aragón Digital 20 years ago, in the original story about the new features of the 66th edition of Zaragoza's General Fair.
