Zaragoza City Council is preparing to renovate the access doors of Casa de los Morlanes, one of the Old Town’s historic buildings, with a budget of nearly 40,000 euros. The project, put out to tender for 39,382.69 euros including VAT, aims to improve entry to the building and ensure safer evacuation in an emergency.

The work will focus on replacing four doors, without involving a comprehensive renovation of the building. The project includes installing two automatic sliding doors at the main entrance and replacing the double door between the assembly hall and the west wing with two independent fire-resistant doors that open in opposite directions. The works are expected to take two months.

DECLARED A SITE OF CULTURAL INTEREST

Casa de los Morlanes, located in Plaza de San Carlos, is a 16th-century palace declared a Site of Cultural Interest. In addition to housing administrative offices, it has exhibition rooms devoted especially to photography and contemporary visual arts. The project aims to adapt its entrances to current needs without altering the building’s architecturally significant features.

The contract is currently out to tender, and interested companies can submit their bids until October 29, 2026, at 1 p.m. The budget amounts to 32,547.68 euros before taxes, and the expected completion period is 60 days. The work is limited to the four doors included in the project and seeks to improve both the operation of the entrances and safety conditions for people using the building.
