In fact, the successful bidder will be required to establish their main residence and register as a resident in Frías de Albarracín. The bakery contract will initially last two years and may be extended in two-year periods up to a maximum of 10 years. The business is expected to begin operating on February 1, 2027.

LIVING IN A VILLAGE AN HOUR FROM TERUEL
Accepting the offer would also mean beginning a new life in one of the small municipalities in the Sierra de Albarracín. Frías de Albarracín has 109 inhabitants, according to 2025 data from Spain’s National Statistics Institute, and a municipal area of 50.79 square kilometres. It lies in the Montes Universales, surrounded by the mountainous landscape characteristic of this part of Teruel province.
The town is approximately an hour’s drive from Teruel. To get there from the provincial capital, drivers must head towards Gea de Albarracín and Albarracín, then continue towards Royuela before turning towards Frías de Albarracín and passing through Calomarde. Its location makes it possible to live in a small rural community while remaining relatively close to Teruel and towns such as Albarracín.
Despite its small size, Frías de Albarracín preserves several sites of natural and historical interest. Notable buildings include the Church of the Assumption and the hermitage of San Roque, while the hermitage of El Carmen is located in Casas de Frías. The village also sits on the slope of Castle Hill, where various excavations have uncovered the remains of a settlement dating to around 1520 BC.
The natural surroundings are another of its main attractions. Nearby sites include Fuente del Berro and Fuente del Buey, both with picnic areas, as well as Fuente de la Mora and Fuente Mentirosa. The area also offers views of Peña Rubia and the Hoz Canyon, and the Devil’s Cave is close by. One of the most unusual natural features is the so-called “H Tree,” formed by two pine trees naturally joined by a branch.
The bakery tender thus offers an opportunity that goes beyond taking charge of a business. For anyone considering starting a venture and moving to the countryside, it provides the chance to settle in a small municipality in the Sierra de Albarracín, move into a municipal home and run an establishment that provides one of the services that is especially important in communities with just over 100 residents.
