The president of the Teruel Provincial Council, Joaquín Juste, took part this morning in an event organized in Teruel by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) to mark World Breast Cancer Day, where he highlighted the association’s work in “providing accompaniment, support, backing and research.” Along these lines, he thanked it for the work carried out both in the “capital” and in “all the municipalities.”
THE MOBILE UNIT WILL REACH FOUR MORE MUNICIPALITIES BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR
Data provided by the Directorate of Management and Social Services of the Teruel Health Sector show that, as of October 15, 6,592 valid mammograms and 105 ultrasounds had been performed, without the participating women having to travel to their referral hospital. The mobile unit has been stationed in Teruel, Andorra, Híjar, Calaceite, Maella and Caspe, and in the remaining months of the year it will reach Cantavieja, Mosqueruela, Cella and Albarracín.
Beatriz Redón, the council member responsible for Social Welfare, also attended the event and stressed that “the early diagnosis of this cancer through screening programs is essential to curb the disease. The positive survival results underscore the need to focus on prevention, diagnosis and treatment as key tools, together with guaranteeing swift and rapid access to therapeutic measures. That is why, through the public platform provided by institutions, we must invite all women to take part in the screening tests we bring to their local communities. We are convinced that bringing the service closer makes it much easier to decide to undergo these types of tests, which is why our commitment to this agreement is absolutely firm.”
The Provincial Council points out that the impact of breast cancer among women is high, with the highest incidence rate, followed by colorectal cancer, and that the breast cancer screening program is included in the Common Portfolio of Services of Spain’s National Health System. The program is carried out in all autonomous communities and currently covers more than 90% of the target population.
