The work will be carried out between kilometer points 141 and 181.050 of the motorway. The project will address a section that has been in service for between nearly 20 and more than 25 years, whose road surface has progressively deteriorated. The pavement will therefore need to be rehabilitated with different thicknesses depending on the section and the damage detected.
REHABILITATION OF 40 KILOMETERS OF PAVEMENT
The section between kilometers 144.4 and 181.050 was opened in 2001, while the section between kilometers 141 and 144.4 entered service at the end of 2008. The project involves the structural rehabilitation of the pavement through milling and subsequent resurfacing at different thicknesses, depending on the degree of deterioration observed at each point. To this end, the project establishes a further division into subsections.
Once the milling and resurfacing work has been completed, a layer of bituminous mix will be laid to create a uniform road surface along the mainline of the motorway in the designated section. The project also includes the Santa Eulalia del Campo interchange at kilometer 144; Torrelacárcel at kilometer 150; Villafranca at kilometer 160; Monreal del Campo at kilometer 172; and Caminreal at kilometer 176.
RECYCLED ASPHALT AND COMPLEMENTARY WORKS
The new asphalt mixes used for resurfacing will contain a percentage of bituminous material obtained by recycling other mixes. This is intended to promote sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of projects carried out on the State Road Network.
The planned complementary works include replacing the loops at the permanent traffic-counting stations located in the project area. The replacement of the expansion joints on the structures along the section is also planned, as is waterproofing the decks with a water-based epoxy-bitumen waterproof membrane.
