CERMI Aragón has delivered a specialized Universal Accessibility training program this week for Zaragoza City Council staff, aiming to integrate accessibility criteria across municipal activities and move toward an administration capable of responding to the needs of all citizens.
Zaragoza trains municipal staff to remove barriers and improve accessibility

The training, funded by Zaragoza City Council, has been held since last Monday and through today, Thursday, at the Seminario Building. It was aimed at municipal professionals from areas especially linked to services and assistance for citizens, including Social Services, Culture, Sports Facilities, and Occupational Health and Prevention.

The program covers both the regulatory framework and the fundamental concepts of universal accessibility, as well as their practical application in different areas of public administration. The sessions have focused on issues related to physical, sensory, technological, communication, and cognitive accessibility, with the aim of providing tools to identify and eliminate barriers.

THE EXPERIENCE OF DISABILITY ORGANIZATIONS AS PART OF THE TRAINING

One of the program's main features is the direct participation of organizations from the disability advocacy movement. ASPACE Zaragoza, Autismo Aragón, Fundación Dfa, FAAPAS, ONCE, and ASZA have delivered the various training modules, contributing specialized knowledge and experiences related to different disabilities.

In this way, the technical content is complemented by a practical approach that helps participants understand how certain barriers in spaces, services, communication, technology, or information can hinder the exercise of rights and participation on equal terms.

CERMI Aragón highlights the involvement of the participating organizations in designing and developing this training program and welcomes Zaragoza City Council's commitment to incorporating accessibility into staff training to promote more inclusive services.
