Venezuelans to mobilize in Zaragoza this Saturday to demand elections in their country

The Venezuelan community is set to mobilize this Saturday, October 17, in Zaragoza as part of the international ‘Set the Date’ initiative, held in cities around the world to demand presidential elections in Venezuela. In the Aragonese capital, the gathering is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Stone Bridge, near the Balcón de San Lázaro.

The organizers are calling for a date to be set for new presidential elections and are also demanding the release of political prisoners, as well as the safe return of María Corina Machado to Venezuela and the return of exiles. The poster circulated for the Zaragoza gathering bears the slogan “¡Presidential elections now!” and calls for these demands to be made visible from outside the country.

AN INTERNATIONAL MOBILIZATION

The Zaragoza protest is part of a day of action organized for October 17 in cities around the world. The Mundo Con Vzla platform has called on the Venezuelan diaspora to take to the streets to demand an election date and “free, fair and verifiable” elections. The organization says the goal is for Venezuelans to be able to decide their country’s political future through voting.

From Zaragoza, the organizers have called on Venezuelans living in Aragón to take part in the initiative and raise the profile of demands that, they say, have long been defended by those living outside Venezuela.
