Apple's new CEO, John Ternus, was in charge of introducing one of the most anticipated products of the presentation. “The iPhone Duo is the most transformative change to the iPhone since the original model,” he said, highlighting that the goal was to design the hardware and software together to create an experience specifically tailored to a foldable device.
TWO SCREENS AND AN IPHONE THAT OPENS LIKE A BOOK
When closed, the iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display, while opening it reveals a 7.6-inch inner panel, the largest ever incorporated into an iPhone. Apple is also bringing back Touch ID in the side button and will allow the Apple Pencil to be used on both screens by the end of the year.
The change in format has also forced Apple to modify iOS. Craig Federighi, the company's head of software, explained that “we analyzed every aspect of iOS to see how we could make it even more useful on the iPhone Duo.” With iOS 27, users will be able, for example, to open two apps at the same time, place two windows from the same app side by side, or automatically adapt content depending on how the phone is folded and oriented.
APPLE ENTERS THE FOLDABLE PHONE MARKET
The model's arrival comes as no surprise, as there had been rumors for several years that the American company was working on its own foldable device. Competitors have been selling this technology for some time. The model calls to mind Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8, as the South Korean company launched its first foldable model more than seven years ago.
The iPhone Duo will be available in starlight white and midnight, with storage capacities of 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB. Ternus says the device aims to “completely redefine what it means to use a foldable phone,” although its starting price of €2,339 also makes it the most exclusive iPhone in the new generation.
