The regional government recalls that the launch of radiotherapy is part of the rollout of Teruel’s new hospital, which opened its doors on September 1. Among the first consultations to become operational is Radiation Oncology.
The Health Department maintains that bringing the accelerator into operation during the first months of 2027 will allow radiotherapy to be one of the first services at the new hospital to operate “at full capacity” and argues that this timetable demonstrates that it is a priority for the regional government.
HEALTH AUTHORITIES SAY THEY ARE ALREADY REINFORCING STAFFING
In response to doubts raised by Teruel Existe about the availability of professionals, the Multihospital Clinical Radiation Oncology Unit (UCMORA) has appointed a section chief as the reference for coordinating care at Hospital Obispo Polanco, who travels periodically to Teruel to prepare for the launch of the service.
In addition, the unit has already hired a radiation oncologist for the hospital in Teruel. With this appointment, UCMORA has 24 specialists in Aragon, a figure that could increase if healthcare needs require it.
The Medical Physics Service has also been strengthened with two new hires, whose professionals are already working in Teruel. With these measures, the regional government is seeking to dispel doubts about the hospital’s ability to launch radiotherapy within the planned timeframe.
