School-based vaccination will take place from October 5 to 19 at the 159 schools in Aragón that have joined the initiative. Each school will coordinate with its designated health center to arrange one or two days on which Primary Care nursing professionals will visit the schools to administer the vaccines.
HOW TO REGISTER CHILDREN
To take part, families must complete the form available on Salud Informa by September 28. The required information includes the school where the child is enrolled, as each child may only receive the vaccine at their own school and only if it is participating in the campaign.
The system itself will notify families if the selected school is not participating. The Health Department also points out that, if the platform displays an error during the process, it is advisable to update the application before submitting the request again.
One of the distinctive features of the school-based campaign is that there will be no needle. The vaccine given to participating children will be administered intranasally, through the nose. In addition to avoiding a trip to a health center, the Education Department says that receiving the vaccine in a familiar setting alongside their classmates may make the process easier for children.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE SCHOOL DOES NOT PARTICIPATE
The fact that a school is not included in the campaign does not mean that the child will be left without a vaccine. Families will be able to go free of charge to their health center when vaccination opens for this age group. The same option will be available to children who cannot attend school on the scheduled day or whose parents prefer not to use the school-based program.
Childhood vaccination at health centers will begin on October 19. Families will be able to request an appointment from October 14 through Salud Informa, in the section for the general vaccination campaign.
With this expansion, the Health Department aims to reduce the number of flu infections among children and prevent the illness from causing absences in classrooms. The measure also seeks to extend protection to family members and professionals who work every day in schools.
