Maldita.es, a media outlet specializing in fact-checking and debunking misinformation, has clarified the origin of the footage after confirming that the recording was published by Aragón Digital on October 7, 2023. The video shows Zaragoza’s Plaza del Pilar, where a crowd sang ‘Canto a la Libertad’ by José Antonio Labordeta during the start of that year’s Pilar Festival. The post now linking it to the housing protests has already amassed nearly 300 comments, 4,000 ‘likes’ and more than 40,000 views.
In some posts shared on October 3 of this 2026, several users assume that the footage shows protests in Sol and add comments such as “these young people are our present” and “bravo for this youth, and they said you were asleep.”
NEITHER MADRID NOR THE HOUSING PROTESTS
The image itself shows that the setting is not Madrid. Several buildings in Zaragoza’s Plaza del Pilar can be identified in the video, including the Spanish Government Delegation in Aragón and the Hotel Pilar Plaza.
In addition, a reverse search of the opening frames leads directly to Aragón Digital’s original post on X, dated October 7, 2023. At the time, the message accompanied the video during the Pilar Festival, with no connection to any housing-related protest or campaign.
