Medical unions and the Health Service move closer after months of negotiations: “We want to reach an agreement”

Medical unions, through their Strike Committee, met with the Aragonese Health Service on Wednesday after receiving a document outlining changes to the profession aimed at reaching an agreement to improve doctors’ working and pay conditions. After the meeting, the committee told ARAGÓN DIGITAL that “there has been some movement closer” between the two sides, although it stressed that no agreement has yet been signed.

Although the Committee prefers to keep the proposed changes private for now, the unions’ demands include introducing level four of the professional career structure and increasing on-call pay, as well as making on-call shifts voluntary, among other issues. The Cesm Aragón and Fasamet unions have repeatedly stressed that on-call hours in Aragon are “among the worst paid” in Spain.

The medical unions’ next step is to hold an assembly this Thursday to explain to their fellow doctors the current state of the negotiations and the improvements put on the table at the latest meeting. “We will hear their views and make decisions,” the Strike Committee said.

They also stressed that the meeting took place in a climate of dialogue and that “both sides want to reach an agreement that is satisfactory for everyone.” Nevertheless, they insisted that negotiations remain open and that, for now, no definitive commitment has been signed.
